Hike La Madre Spring in Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon s La Madre Spring is the perfect hiking trail to kick off your Springtime adventures in the desert.
Photo taken by Lauren Hyde It s officially Spring in Vegas, which means it s the perfect time to get out and explore the desert before it gets insanely hot. Red Rock Canyon has over 30 hiking trails that range in length and difficulty. Whichever one you choose, you ll be surrounded by the beautiful orange and red canyon walls and even some greenery. Until May, timed reservations are required for entry to the park. Make yours here. It also costs $15 per car to enter. The Visitor s Center is the place to start, especially if it s your first time in the park. Take a walk-through to get an overview of all that there is to see. I recommend taking the La Madre Spring trail. From the Visitor s Center, you can take the scenic drive to access the trailhead. There are spots to park along the road once you get there. It s an out and back trail that s about 3.5 miles total. This trail isn t strenuous. It winds between colorful cliffs and mountains that eventually leads to the La Madre Spring of water surrounded by greenery.

Make sure to bring plenty of water for the round trip, wear layers, and sunscreen. The heat can sneak up on you and it s best to be over-prepared when you re far out there! Have fun, stay safe, and happy trails!
