1. The Name

Between 1980 and 1987, it was named Sundance Hotel, The Fitzgeralds Hotel and Casino between 1987 and 2012, and the D Las Vegas since 2012. The hotel completely rebranded in 2012, adopting the new name and shedding its "Luck of Irish" theme.  The renovations cost about $22 million, but it gave the joint a new modern touch. The D stands for Downtown, but it also refers to the owner Derek Stevens' nickname and his hometown, Detroit.
