Downtown Summerlin Brings the Year of the Horse to Life
If you're looking for a vibrant way to kick off the Year of the Horse, Downtown Summerlin has you covered with their annual Lunar New Year parade happening Tuesday, February 17. This marks the ninth year they‘ve celebrated Southern Nevada’s rich Asian heritage, and honestly, it's become one of those events that locals circle on their calendars.
The parade steps off at 6 p.m. along Park Centre Drive, featuring everything from graceful fan dancers to towering stilt walkers. The star of the show? An absolutely massive dragon that‘s guaranteed to stop traffic and get everyone’s phones out. Minero General Contractor is presenting the event, with help from BEST Agency and Lohan School of Shaolin bringing authentic cultural elements to the celebration.
Festive Decorations Throughout February
Starting in early February, the entire Downtown Summerlin shopping district transforms with Year of the Horse themed decorations. You'll find those perfect-for-Instagram oversized 2026 letters at the Macy‘s Promenade - trust me, everyone’s going to want their photo with these.
The real showstopper sits at the Dining Arroyo: a larger-than-life Chinese dragon that‘s become a must-see photo op. It’s the kind of installation that makes you appreciate how Downtown Summerlin goes all-out for their seasonal celebrations. The decorations stay up throughout the month, so you've got plenty of time to visit and soak in the festive atmosphere.
A Community Tradition Nine Years Strong
What started as a cultural celebration has grown into something special for the entire Las Vegas valley. Danielle Bisterfeldt, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Experience for Summerlin, explained that the Lunar New Year celebration has become a fan favorite thanks to its colorful and larger-than-life features.
The event honors our city‘s Asian heritage and culture in a way that feels authentic and celebratory. It’s one of those community traditions that brings families together - you'll see multiple generations enjoying the parade, from grandparents explaining the significance of the dragon dance to kids mesmerized by the stilt walkers.
Perfect for Families and Culture Lovers
This celebration hits that sweet spot of being educational and entertaining. The partnership with Lohan School of Shaolin brings legitimate cultural expertise to the festivities, so you‘re not just seeing a parade - you’re experiencing authentic traditions that have been passed down for generations.
The timing works perfectly for families too. A 6 p.m. start means you can grab dinner at one of Downtown Summerlin's many restaurants before or after the parade. Make an evening of it by exploring the shopping and dining options while you're there. Mark your calendar for February 17 and get ready to welcome the Year of the Horse in style.
